Wow, was it ever a rainy day on the water! I had a group of guys that wanted to brave the rain so off we headed up Howe Sound to Camp Potlatch. We fished for 3 hours in the downpour and with a little luck we caught a Pink. We also lost one and had another hit. We then got a call that there were a little school of Pinks off of Furry creek. We got there and fished for about 15 minutes and limited out. They then disappeared. The Pinks are starting to hump up and are definately moving up towards Squamish river. In the harbour there were a few Springs taken for those who braved the rain. Friday was alot nicer of a day. We headed up the Sound in the afternoon. The people that fished the morning in English Bay at the Bell Buoy, had a few Springs and an odd Pink. We went and looked at Furry and saw nothing, so we headed up to Potlatch. At first we saw nothing, however, just before we left, we saw a little school of Pinks off of the creek. We ended up with 6 Pinks and we released a couple again. Some of them had very big roe in them already. They are definately headed up to the Squamish river. The next fishery should be very soon if we don`t get any more fresh Pinks up Howe Sound. There are still the Fraser Pinks to come also, and then we have our Springs still to come. These should be showing up at the Bell Buoy and then the Capilano Springs. Alot off great fishing ahead still just need things to dry up for us.

The fishing for Pink Salmon in Howe Sound has remained unstable. One day appears successful and the next day is potentially a bit slower than normal. They still have not arrived in huge numbers yet, although every day is more promising, with increasing numbers of schools fining about. One of the main problems off of Potlatch is the numerous seals that we have encountered. It appears as though the schools that tend to come into the shallows are being scared off by these predators. Without a doubt, the best fishing is when the seals do not seem to be around. A few days ago, the Gulf Islands produced another Halibut off of Thrasher Rock. This is great news, and hopefully it continues! Some well sized Springs, the biggest one weighing 35lbs, have been caught off of the Fraser River from T10 down to the South Arm. The West Van shoreline has picked up within the last few days with regards to the Spring, Coho, and Pink Salmon. The most action and success seems to be on the flood tide where Springs into the low thirties have been caught, however most averaging into the high teens. It is great to see that fishing is continuing to improve everywhere. We still look forward to the main run of Pinks still to come in the near future. As per usual, the crabbing remains fabulous! Another day on the water around vancouver. The West Van shoreline was nearlly unfishable and by late morning was not fishable. A few Coho were caught in the morning but it was so rough it was very tough to fish. We left the dock late morning and by this time the West Van shoreline was not fishable. We went to Hole in the Wall and the Sunset Beach area. We had a decent day in the end we ended up with a 20lb Spring and 2 Jacks which are just undersize mature Spring salmon both weighed about 7lbs. We had a bunch of dungeness crab so with the wind a not so bad day in the end.

Another great day on the water around vancouver flat calm and sunny. A few miles south of T10 the fishing was abit slower today but some nice fish were still caught the boat i talked to got a nice Spring a few Jack Springs and lost a beauty beside the boat. In the afternoon we fished the West Van shoreline again near the Capilano River and kept 3 nice Coho, releases a wild Coho, released 2 undersize Springs, and lost a few Coho not as good as yesterday but still a good afternoon. The crabbing remains very good with lots of big dungeness crab we picked our 12 legal crab and threw a bunch back. Hopefully no big rain comes those Coho should just keep stcking up near the Capilano river. Untill next time good luck.

Still great weather and the fishing has just got better. The Gulf islands are still good off of Thrasher and Five fingers. Howe Sound there have been a few Springs taken off Salmon Rock. The West van shoreline has been quite good for Coho and there’re a few Springs mixed in. T10 which is off the airport and the middle arm of the Fraser river has been producing Springs with some days being very good. Things are looking up, things should keep getting better especially the West Van shoreline if it does not rain. The Capilano River is very low right now and the fish really can’t get up the river and should continue to stack up

The Salmon fishing has calmed down abit the last few days from the unreal fishing we had a couple weeks ago. The Gulf islands have slowed down abit some nice Springs still getting caught off Thrasher, Five fingers, and the Grande. This side of the Strait of Georgia the Spring salmon fishing has slowed down abit also but some real nice fish getting caught. Hole in the Wall and Grace islands have produced some nice Spring salmon. The Bell buoy off point grey has produced some nice Springs and a few Coho have started to show up. The West van shoreline has produced some nice Springs off the Marker at the Capilano river. The Coho from the Bell buoy will move to the west van shoreline and wait for rain to go up the Capilano River. Crabbing is still great lots of Dungeness alot being over 7 inches.

Today things heated up in the Gulf islands after a couple days of rough water the guys could get out and fish for the Spring salmon. I know of 2 boats that fished off the Grande which is just outside of Silva Bay on Gabriolla island. The nice thing is it looks like the fish have moved inshore which we have been waiting for they usually stay around the structure which is great for us targeting them. One of the boats I talked to kept 3 Springs lost another one around the downrigger and had a couple more hits. The boat that was fishing beside him Kept 4 and lost a couple also with the weather sappossed to stay the same for the week should mean some calm water. On this side of the strait in Howe Sound a few fish were lost at Hole in the wall and I know of 3 that were lost at Grace islands with the water finally looking like it’s calming down for the week more boats will be out on the water. Crabbing still remains very good so the week looks good.

Another great day on the water today sunny warm and calm. The North West was supposed to come up but didn’t. The weather change to warm weather might of made the Spring salmon go off the bite the last few days; although there still were some nice salmon caught. Grace which is of the south west side of Gambier has produced a few nice fish with the biggest one I know weighing 23lbs. The far side of the Strait of Georgia, of Thrasher Rock and Five fingers off Nanaimo slowed down a bit from the torrid pace it had last week but still good numbers hopefully the fish move inshore more, near some structure where it’s easier to pinpoint them and when they do move in there the Spring salmon fishing will be good till the end of July if not longer. With the weather looking like it’s going to be sunny and warm for the next week the fishing should heat back up again.
