The fishing has picked up quite abit in the last few days around vancouver. In the last few days there have been some fish caught in English Bay, the Bell Buoy, the South end of Bowen, and Grace island. Hopefully the last few days is the start of our Spring fishery. English bay off the Capilano to the Dundarave peir on the flood has produced a few nice Spring from being just undersize to the mid teens. The Bell Buoy there were a few more smaller undersize fish with a few legal fish in the 8 to 14lb range. In Howe Sound at Grace island a boat had a few good hours there losing a nice fish getting a nice fish and two undersize fish also. The South end of Bowen island it seems the better luck has been a mile or two off Cowans to Roger Curtis. The fish here have ranged in size from just legal to about 15lbs with one boat yesterday getting three legal and losing two other good ones in a short time. The Gulf islands seem to have picked up abit also so everything seems to have started. This is the time of year we go out one day and we get busy it seems to be heading that way it usually happens in mid April. What a beautiful day to be on the water in the Strait of Georgia. We left Horseshoe Bay at 1130am and headed out of Howe Sound to the South end of Bowen island. We got our gear down around noon 4 miles of Roger Curtis. We trolled around for an hour or so and didn’t see much. There was no wind and the Stait of Georgia was flat calm  we headed over to Gabriolla Island. On the way over we saw Dolphin to make the ride more enjoyable. We got out gear down at 3pm at the Grande we then saw a big bunch of birds and 8 to 10 bald eagles  feeding on a school of big herring that was on the surface. We started to show feed on the bottom as we were nearing Whale bone Bay. We then started to get quite abit of action  with bottom fish we ended the day with 9 rock cod  , 2 flounder, 1 lingcod, 5 pacific cod, and we did get a nice Spring salmon . It was a great day on the water with plenty off fish probably would of done better for salmon but there were just to many bottom fish. We stopped fishing at 7pm to get back before dark . On the way back we saw the Dolphin in the middle of the straight again. The crab traps   did well with a good number of large Dundeness crab. The fishing should just get batter hopefully the weather stays like it was today and we’ll be able to get across the straight and to fish off the South end of Bowen Island. Another couple stormy days in the greater Vancouver area. The good news is in the last 4 or 5 days when people can get out in this weather there seems to be alot more feed showing up. There seems to be feed showing up at Hole in the Wall to Lions Bay when this weather calms down there should be some Springs to be caught. There also is some feed showing up at the usual spots on the West side of Bowen Island, 3rd marker, Tunstal, and Hutt island. I did know one boat that did get for an hour or so of fishing at Grace island and did manage to get a 10lb Spring before he got blown out of there. The prawning and crabbing remains very good. Hopefully this weather blows itself out and we get some settled weather and fishing should pick up quite quickly. It’s very close to the time of year we start to fish the South end of Bowen island. Should be some great fishing there are some blue backs which are small Coho salmon already are in the Stait Of Georgia. Well the weather this weekend was not on our side. Not many people went out. The algae bloom seems to have arrived in parts of Howe Sound already. The salmon fishing seemed to have slowed down abit on thursday and friday last week at Grace, 3rd marker, and Tunstal but the water was very brown with the algae bloom. There was a boat that got out for awhile on sunday and fished Tunstal bay for a few hours. He did end up with one legal Spring and 2 undersize not bad for a few hours. The south end of Bowen island should start to pick up here in the next week or two. There is the odd Spring getting caught on the flood at the Capilano river off the marker. There will be alot more activity on the water if the weather gets back to being nice including myself just waiting for calm winds and flat water. Crabbing and prawning remain very good and should continue untill the commercial prawn fishery is opened. Good luck till then give me a call if you need any questions answered.

The fishing has picked up on the west side of Bowen in the last few days. The Spring salmon fishing in Howe Sound on the west side of Bowen island has picked up at Grace Islands, Hutt Island, and 3rd Marker. The weather has been on our side and some nice Springs in the 8 to 16 pound range have been caught there also have been quite a few undersize fish caught also that range in size from 5lbs to just undersize. It should just keep getting better as the Spring moves on and we’ll start fishing off the South end of Bowen Island to the Gulf Islands soon. Crabbing and Prawning remains great. Well Spring time seems to be here. Fishing this winter was decent one day then slow the next day. There wasn’t that much feed around this winter if you found feed you usually picked up a few nice winter Springs. The Crabbing and Prawning this winter has been nothing short of amazing this should continue for both till the comercial prawning starts usually some time in June. This is the time of year in Vancouver we start to get a good number of Spring salmon showing up in the Straight of Georgia, Off the Fraser River, in Howe Sound, and for full day trips the Gulf Islands. The Herring have moved into the Straight to spawn in good numbers and the Spring salmon are usually not far behind. In the last week or so there have been a few Springs caught off Point Grey to the North Arm mostly just undersize with a few nice ones mixed in. The West side of Bowen seem to have bigger fish with some nice fish getting caught at Hutt Island, 3rd Marker, and Tunstall Bay. The South end of Bowen island starts to heat up at the end of March and goes till May. The crabbing in Howe Sound remains great all year round there’s no commercial fishery for them at any time in this area. This is the time of year everybody puts there boats back in the water and the marinas turn from ghost towns to full of boaters. They’ll be alot more people out fishing in the next few weeks so we’ll get a lot better idea of where the fish are and what they’re eating better having 100 boats spread out everywhere fishing to 10 or so boats fishing in the winter. The Winter Spring fishery has started to get better and with this nice warm weather what a great way to spend a day on the water. Fishing in English Bay on the flood tide from the Capilano river to 25th street seems to be producing a few undersize and legal fish. The west side of Bowen island Tunstall, 3rd marker, and Hutt island have produced some nice fish in the last week.  The fishing usually heats up at this time of  year as the Herring start to move into the area.  Crabbing has been great for Dungeness crab.   Prawning has been great also. For fishing at this time of year a 6hr charter is perfect it’s just the right amount of time to explore Howe Sound.   If the weather stays this nice we should have a great couple of weeks on the water over the Olympic games.

In the last week we have seen the last of the Pinks go up the South arm off the Fraser River. The fishing in English Bay the last week has picked up at the Bell Buoy and the West Van shoreline to the Capilano River. We’re generally fishing the flood tide near the Capilano and on the ebb tide out toward the Bell Buoy. We’ve done well fishing the flood tide near the capilano getting quite a few Jack Springs, and our biggest Spring being 31lbs. There have also been the odd Coho taken and early in the week a couple Pinks. The Bell Buoy has been hit or miss with some boats doing well with the biggest Spring that has been confirmed has been 36lbs. In the next few weeks this is the time of year you have your real chance at a tyee. Until next time good luck hope to see you out there. It has been another nice couple of days fishing in Vancouver. It looks as though the last of the Pinks have disappeared from up Howe Sound and headed toward the Squamish River. We have had a great couple of weeks fishing for Pinks while using our light tackle. The Spring salmon has started to show up off of the Fraser river and also in English Bay. We have seen some Pinks, Sockeye, and Springs produced at the Bell Buoy in English Bay as well. Furthermore, there have been a couple of Springs caught off of the West Van shoreline on the flood tide. Moreover, there have been sightings of some Springs and Pinks off of the Fraser River from t10 to the South arm. We had a great day on the water Monday morning, where we ended up with a 30lb and 16lb Spring. That same day, we lost a Spring in the mid 20’s and released one that was just short of being considered legal size. It was near the end of august of last year when the late run of Spring salmon arrived. Fishing looks good so far, and should only get better over the course of the next week or so. We can only hope that the killer whales stay away. As always, crabbing remains a success!

The last few days on the water since the Killer whales went through on Monday has been abit slower. Thursday and Friday this week were windy in the morning and was not helping fishing out. In the past few days in English Bay to the Bell Buoy there has been the odd Spring taken and there are a few schools of Pinks and Sockeye. The main run off Pinks for the Fraser are still coming and in the next week the Spring fishing off the Bell Buoy to T10 should heat up and if it’s anything like last year we’ll all have fun. The Capilano is still a couple weeks away for that Spring run and that’ll run till the start off October and longer if the rain stays away. The last few days for my boat had mixed results. Thusday afternoon we fished for just over an hour and we released 2 Sockeye lost 1 and had a couple grills. Friday late morning we fished and had a few grills, fished for 3hrs there was a nice 20lbs Spring caught but very slow everywhere and the water was windy and had a couple feet chop. This morning we released an undersize Spring, had a shot at a nice Spring, released 2 Sockeye lost a Sockeye, and kept a Pink. It was slow overall most boats had a shot at a pink or Sockeye but slow. The fishing should pick up very soon if it’s like previous years. Best time to do charters at this time of year is in the week if possible the weekends get very crouded when these fish get here. Crabbing remains very good lots of big Dungeness crab.

Wow, was it ever a rainy day on the water! I had a group of guys that wanted to brave the rain so off we headed up Howe Sound to Camp Potlatch. We fished for 3 hours in the downpour and with a little luck we caught a Pink. We also lost one and had another hit. We then got a call that there were a little school of Pinks off of Furry creek. We got there and fished for about 15 minutes and limited out. They then disappeared. The Pinks are starting to hump up and are definately moving up towards Squamish river. In the harbour there were a few Springs taken for those who braved the rain. Friday was alot nicer of a day. We headed up the Sound in the afternoon. The people that fished the morning in English Bay at the Bell Buoy, had a few Springs and an odd Pink. We went and looked at Furry and saw nothing, so we headed up to Potlatch. At first we saw nothing, however, just before we left, we saw a little school of Pinks off of the creek. We ended up with 6 Pinks and we released a couple again. Some of them had very big roe in them already. They are definately headed up to the Squamish river. The next fishery should be very soon if we don`t get any more fresh Pinks up Howe Sound. There are still the Fraser Pinks to come also, and then we have our Springs still to come. These should be showing up at the Bell Buoy and then the Capilano Springs. Alot off great fishing ahead still just need things to dry up for us.

Well the rain came and was it ever a downpour. For the few brave people that went fishing today up the Howe Sound, were they ever rewarded. There were Pink salmon everywhere! The 4 boats that I saw at the Spot where I was fishing, all limited out very quickly. We all released a alot of salmon as well. Today, we kept our 8 Pinks and released over 20 more in the morning. Hopefully this fishing continues!

A fabulous day on the water! The fishing was great again today around vancouver. A few nice Spring were caught near the high tide in English Bay and on the West van shoreline near the Capilano River. The Bell Buoy was again the main place most people fished this morning, with most boats getting a chance at a couple Springs. The biggest Spring landed today was 31lbs. Also at the Bell buoy today, a few pinks and sockeye were caught. We went up Howe Sound once again and were successful. We limited out on Pinks quite quickly, and realeased 22 more throughout the morning. Crabbing remains fabulous and prawning is just around the corner!

Another couple days on the water with mixed results. Thursday we headed up Howe Sound in the morning and fished for Pinks. We ended up with 3 Pinks had a few more hits and lost 4 or 5. When we arrived the Pinks were schooling around we got a couple right away and then the seal moved in took one off our line and scattered the schools and they never came back. Not a bad morning but could off been alot better if the seals had not bothered us. The morning in English bay on the West Van shoreline was very slow. A few boats moved over to the Bell Buoy later in the morning and caught some Sockeye that had to be released, a few Pinks and a couple boats got a Spring. The afternoon we headed down to the West Van shoreline to fish the flood tide that had produced the last few days. The fishing was very slow I saw one boat get a small Coho or Pink. Later in the evening a few Springs got hit at the Bell Buoy a friend of mine got a 15 and 20lb right near the high slack. This morning was a different story quite a few boats at the Bell Buoy did well with a few boats getting 4 or 5 Springs all high teens to mid twenty’s. We went up Howe Sound again this morning and it was the complete difference from the morning before. We limited out on Pinks in a very short time and realeased 28 over the next couple hours and lost a bunch more. A great day on the water all around Vancouver. Crabbing remains great with alot of 7 inch Dungeness crab.

The fishing for Pink Salmon in Howe Sound has remained unstable. One day appears successful and the next day is potentially a bit slower than normal. They still have not arrived in huge numbers yet, although every day is more promising, with increasing numbers of schools fining about. One of the main problems off of Potlatch is the numerous seals that we have encountered. It appears as though the schools that tend to come into the shallows are being scared off by these predators. Without a doubt, the best fishing is when the seals do not seem to be around. A few days ago, the Gulf Islands produced another Halibut off of Thrasher Rock. This is great news, and hopefully it continues! Some well sized Springs, the biggest one weighing 35lbs, have been caught off of the Fraser River from T10 down to the South Arm. The West Van shoreline has picked up within the last few days with regards to the Spring, Coho, and Pink Salmon. The most action and success seems to be on the flood tide where Springs into the low thirties have been caught, however most averaging into the high teens. It is great to see that fishing is continuing to improve everywhere. We still look forward to the main run of Pinks still to come in the near future. As per usual, the crabbing remains fabulous! This is a great time to book your charter and enjoy a day of fishing in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia!

Another great hot day on the water! Up Howe Sound, the Pinks were thicker than they were the day before. In the morning, on charter, we limited out very easily and also released a bunch. It will only get better from here. Two years ago, when we last had Pink Salmon, they arrived August 4th. There are great signs that they are here in these numbers already. The West Van shoreline is still producing a few fish on the right tide. Down at the T10 marker to the south arm, off of the Fraser River, there are some big Springs that have been caught. The odd Sockeye has been caught and released as well. We are booking up quick for August, so this is a great time to book your vancouver salmon fishing trip! Crabbing for Dungeness still remains great!

Another warm and sunny day on the waters around vancouver. Very calm and hot today on the water. The West Van shoreline produced a few fish today. We fished for a few hours today kept 1 Pink and lost 3 Pinks and realeased 4 little Lingcod. Another boat near the Fishery Station hit a Coho, and a Pink. The Gulf Isalnds produced again with a boat getting a 15lb Halibut and 2 Springs around 20lbs each and lost 2 others at Thrasher Rock. It’s very surprising that a Halibut keeps getting hit every few days a great sign if they stick around. Howe Sound a few more Pinks showed up at Furry Creek with a few of the beach casters getting a few more today early in the morning. Crabbing remains very good for Dungeness Crab. Getting close to August a few more fish showing up every day looks great for August.

Fishing was alot better today with Sockeye, Pink, Coho, and some Springs showing up on the West Van shoreline. On the flood this morning quite a few fish were taken from the Pink apartment down to the marker off the Capilano River. There also later in the day a few Pinkis were taken off the Fishery Station. In the last couple days these fish have moved in this is what we’ve been waiting for the last couple weeks it should get better every day. The Gulf islands The Grande and Thrasher rock some good fishing for Springs continues when the water lets us get over to that side. Howe Sound a few Pinks have shown up any day now we should get a big push off them up the Sound to the Defense Islands, and Furry Creek area. Things are looking very positive for the next month for Coho, Pink and Sockeye with a few Springs mixed in. Crabbing remains very good with lots off big dungeness crab. Until next time good luck

Nice calm day on the water around the Vancouver area today. The Gulf islands produced some nice Springs they were hitting near the high slack in the morning. Seems like there’re a few more schools of Coho in English Bay on the West Van shoreline and a few nice Springs. Fishing has perked up abit in the last few days everywhere lets hope the rain stays away. August is booking up pretty quick with the antisapation of the big return of the Pink and Sockeye salmon book now.

It’s been a nice sunny weekend on the water around Vancouver. The Gulf islands off of Thrasher rock and the Grande have produced some very nice Springs. It’s still hit and miss but well worth it when you hit. One boat got 3 very nice Springs weighing 34, 26, and 20lbs, but a boat beside him had one hit and did not get it in. This side of the Straight of Georgia has been alike, hit or miss. T10 and South has had some nice Springs and a few Jack Spings mixed in. There has been the odd Spring and Coho hit on the West Van shoreline, but this has slowed down. In Howe Sound, a few Springs and Jack Springs have been caught in certain areas such as: Salmon Rock, Grace islands, and Hole in the Wall. Crabbing still remains successful. On the last trip out to the traps, we got 15 legal Dungeness Crab. Looking forward to the next couple of weeks when we should begin to see the Pinks and Sockeye arrive.
