Fishing report June 6 -9th

A few Springs have been getting caught in the Gulf islands with them moved inshore to Thrasher Rock and the Grande with a 30lb Halibut getting caught at Thrasher rock trolling the bottom. On this side of the Straight of Georgia, Howe sound there’s still a few Springs getting caught at Hole in the Wall and Grace islands. The West Van shoreline in English Bay has started to produce a few Spring salmon and some Coho also. The tides get better for fishing the West van shoreline next week with a good flood in the morning which is the tide we want to fish as the fish get pushed to the Capilano river you don’t want to fish this area when the tide is ebbing. Crabbing is still been very good with lots of big dungeness crab around 7 inches across the back. It usually is slow the first 2 or 3 weeks of June then the West van area usually heats up as long as it does not rain much and Salmon rock and Howe sound pick up for Springs heading to the Squamish river.

Fishing report May 29/09

Another great day on the water today sunny warm and calm. The North West was supposed to come up but didn’t. The weather change to warm weather might of made the Spring salmon go off the bite the last few days; although there still were some nice salmon caught. Grace which is of the south west side of Gambier has produced a few nice fish with the biggest one I know weighing 23lbs. The far side of the Strait of Georgia, of Thrasher Rock and Five fingers off Nanaimo slowed down a bit from the torrid pace it had last week but still good numbers hopefully the fish move inshore more, near some structure where it’s easier to pinpoint them and when they do move in there the Spring salmon fishing will be good till the end of July if not longer. With the weather looking like it’s going to be sunny and warm for the next week the fishing should heat back up again. Until next time cheers Mark call (604)816-8944 if you have any questions or want to book a Father’s day fishing trip.

Fishing report May25/09

Great day on the water today. On the way out into Howe sound we checked the crab traps and kept our limit of 12 big Dungeness crab a great way to start the day. We started salmon fishing in Tunstall Bay on the west side of Bowen island. It did not take long and we had our first spring salmon on we got it to the boat it was 19.5lbs a great way to start. We had a chance at one more spring in the next 2hrs but never got a chance to land it. We then moved to 3rd marker again on the west side of Bowen island it did not take long we just got all our rods down and off screamed a rod, a real nice Spring salmon again 18.5 lbs we had a chance at one more nice fish not a bad morning leaving the dock at 9 in the morning. All of this within 15minutes of the dock. The Gulf island were good again today with some fish taken a few miles of Thrasher rock. There also have been quite a few Spring salmon taken at Hole in the wall less than 2 minutes from the marina. Another great day on the water the fishing should just keep getting better and the feed is sticking around both the Springs we kept today were full of herring a very good sign for the next few weeks.

Fishing report May 22nd

The water has calmed right down in the last day or so and the forcast is for calm water. The gulf islands of thrasher rock to of Five fingers offshore 2 to 5 miles is still producing very good numbers of Spring salmon and should only get better for the next month or so; a great way to spend a whole day on the water. Howe Sound has been quite good the fish are moving into the sound, nothing like a 10 minute boat ride to the fishing grounds. The west side of Bowen has been producing and has Grace island which is of the south end of Gambier island. Most fish that have been caught are in the 12 to 20lb range and are all full of bait if the bait sticks around will be a great few months. Fishing is shaping up to be a great summer for Spring salmon there is more feed around than there has been in years and the Pink salmon run will be in the millions this year.  Crabbing for Dungeness crab has been great and should continue through the summer where we crab we do not get affected by the commercial fishing.

Fishing Report May 17/09

The May long weekend has been awsome salmon fishing. This side of the straight has slowed down abit but the other side near the Gulf islands had been awsome. Salmon fishing of Thrasher Rock 2 to 4 miles has been awsome mostly on spoons from 80 to 130ft with some being caught shallower and deaper. Some of the Spring salmon have been close to 30lbs but most are in the 14 to 18lbs range. This fishery is great for day trips and it should only get better. Crabbing is still great things should only get better from here on. Nothing like fishing in the morning then lunch on Gabriolla island and then a nice cruise back to Vancouver.

Fishing report May 12/09

Not on the water today weather was not very nice a big north west blew up. A friend of mine was out there lost one before he got blown of the water. In the afternoon the wind eased and by late afternoon was flat calm. The North west quite often blows in fresh Spring salmon so tomorrow is a new day. Crabbing is still great in Howe sound and stays good throughout the summer we don’t get hit by the commercial fishery like alot of places they do not fish howe sound.

Fishing report May 09/09

Another Nice sunny day on the water today started of the South end of Bowen island but moved to the West side of Bowen island after the wind picked up. The ones who stayed out on the South end of Bowen did okay for Spring salmon 2 to 3 miles of shore. I fished the 3rd marker and had 2 just undersize Spring salmon about 6lbs each then the wind blew in. We finished our trip checking the crab traps of the West van shorline and kept 11 nice Dungeness crab. Another good day on the waters around Vancouver fishing and taking in Howe sound.
